Artist
L'Arpeggiata is an international early-music ensemble founded in 2000 by Austrian theorbist and harpist Christina Pluhar. The group is known for seventeenth-century repertory, particularly Italian Baroque music, performed with elements of improvisation and folk tradition. Its recordings include Mediterraneo and Via Crucis. L'Arpeggiata has appeared at the BBC Proms in the Royal Albert Hall in programmes directed by Pluhar. The ensemble has also performed at Carnegie Hall in New York, bringing its vocal and instrumental repertory to a major North American concert stage. Pluhar directs from the theorbo, leading a flexible period-instrument ensemble that may include plucked strings, harp, keyboards and percussion. Countertenor Philippe Jaroussky recorded the Monteverdi programme Teatro d'Amore and the Purcell-based Music for a While with the group. The Utrecht Early Music Festival and Festival d'Ambronay have both presented L'Arpeggiata's programmes.
