Larry Sparks in Prestonsburg

Larry Sparks is an American bluegrass singer and guitarist, born in Lebanon, Ohio, in 1947. His direct vocal style and lead guitar are closely associated with recordings including “John Deere Tractor,” “Tennessee 1949” and “A Face in the Crowd,” while gospel music has remained central to his repertoire. After Carter Stanley’s death in 1966, Larry Sparks performed with Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys. He formed the Lonesome Ramblers in 1969 and spent the following decades leading the group through bluegrass festivals, theatres and concert halls. His live work has also included appearances at the Grand Ole Opry.
