Les Négresses Vertes in Louvain-la-Neuve

Les Négresses Vertes are a French band formed in Paris in 1987, originally fronted by singer Helno. They play chanson, alternative rock and punk charged by accordion, brass, flamenco and North African rhythms. Their debut album, Mlah, introduced signature songs including “Zobi la mouche” and “Voilà l’été”; later releases included Famille nombreuse and Trabendo. Following Mlah, the group toured Europe and North America and performed at Glastonbury Festival. They carried on after Helno’s death in 1993, eventually separating in 2001. Surviving members reunited in 2018 for the debut album’s 30th anniversary, returning its songs to European stages, including concerts in London.
