Manic Street Preachers are a Welsh alternative rock band formed in Blackwood in 1986. James Dean Bradfield, Nicky Wire and Sean Moore first recorded with guitarist and lyricist Richey Edwards; their best-known work includes the albums The Holy Bible and Everything Must Go, plus songs such as “Motorcycle Emptiness,” “A Design for Life” and “If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next.” The band played a New Year’s Eve concert at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium in 1999. In 2014 they performed The Holy Bible in full on an anniversary tour, then marked two decades of Everything Must Go with a 2016 concert at Swansea’s Liberty Stadium. They have repeatedly played London and returned to Glasgow and Manchester on later British tours.
Suede are a British alternative rock band formed in London in 1989 by singer Brett Anderson and bassist Mat Osman. Their guitar-driven music draws on glam rock and art rock. The self-titled debut album won the Mercury Music Prize, while Dog Man Star and Coming Up produced songs including “The Drowners,” “Animal Nitrate,” “Trash” and “Beautiful Ones.” After ending their original run in 2003, Suede reunited for a Teenage Cancer Trust concert at the Royal Albert Hall in 2010. They returned there in 2014 to perform Dog Man Star in full for its twentieth anniversary, then built the 2016 Night Thoughts tour around a complete performance of that album accompanied by Roger Sargent’s film. They later co-headlined a North American tour with Manic Street Preachers. Suede present full-band headline shows in concert halls such as Manchester’s Albert Hall and academy venues such as O2 Academy Brixton.
