Artist
Marc Ribot is an American guitarist and composer, born in Newark, New Jersey, in 1954. He plays avant-garde jazz, free improvisation, rock and Afro-Cuban music. He is known for his guitar work on Tom Waits albums including Rain Dogs, Franks Wild Years and Mule Variations, as well as for his own groups Los Cubanos Postizos and Ceramic Dog. Los Cubanos Postizos brought Ribot’s interpretations of music by Cuban composer Arsenio Rodríguez to clubs and festivals after the group’s 1998 debut. He later formed Ceramic Dog with Shahzad Ismaily and Ches Smith, and the trio toured its jazz-rock repertoire. The 2014 concert album Live at the Village Vanguard documents Ribot performing alone on guitar at the Greenwich Village club.
