Gerald Clayton is an American jazz pianist and composer, born in Utrecht in 1984 and raised in Los Angeles. The son of bassist and composer John Clayton, he is known for contemporary post-bop heard on albums including Two-Shade, Bond: The Paris Sessions and Tributary Tales. Gerald Clayton spent several years as the pianist in trumpeter Roy Hargrove’s quintet before leading his own small groups. He later performed at Charles Lloyd’s 80th-birthday concert at the Lobero Theatre in Santa Barbara, documented on 8: Kindred Spirits (Live from the Lobero). A 2019 engagement by his quintet produced Happening: Live at the Village Vanguard.
