About Nação Zumbi
Nação Zumbi is a Brazilian band formed in Recife and originally billed as Chico Science & Nação Zumbi. The group helped shape manguebeat through maracatu-rooted percussion, rock and hip-hop, and is known for the albums Da Lama ao Caos and Afrociberdelia, as well as songs including “A Praieira” and “Maracatu Atômico.”
In 1995, Chico Science & Nação Zumbi performed at SummerStage in New York’s Central Park during the band’s early international touring. After Chico Science died in 1997, the group carried on with Jorge du Peixe as lead singer and performed at Rock in Rio in 2001.
The concert format centers on a full band, electric guitar, bass and a large percussion section led by the deep pulse of alfaia drums. That percussion-led setup remained at the heart of the group’s shows under Jorge du Peixe.
