Nellie McKay in Newport

Nellie McKay is an American singer-songwriter, pianist and actor whose music draws on jazz-pop, cabaret, rock and folk. She became known through the double album “Get Away from Me,” which includes “David” and “The Dog Song,” and later recorded “Normal as Blueberry Pie: A Tribute to Doris Day.” In 2006, she played Polly Peachum in the Broadway production of “The Threepenny Opera” at Studio 54. Her solo concerts have featured vocals, piano and ukulele, while her theatrical music programs have included “I Want to Live!,” centered on Barbara Graham, and “A Girl Named Bill,” about jazz musician Billy Tipton.
