About Parliament
Parliament is an American funk band led by George Clinton, developed from his doo-wop group the Parliaments and closely linked with Funkadelic. Its 1970s recordings established the P-Funk sound through albums including Mothership Connection and Funkentelechy vs. the Placebo Syndrome, as well as songs such as “Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker)” and “Flash Light.”
The 1976 P-Funk Earth Tour presented Parliament and Funkadelic as one large ensemble on arena stages. The concerts featured the descending Mothership prop and Clinton’s Dr. Funkenstein persona, and the period was documented on Live: P-Funk Earth Tour. Later concerts commonly used the billing George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic and drew on both groups’ catalogues.
