Artist
Perfume Genius is the recording and performance project of American singer-songwriter Mike Hadreas, begun in Seattle in 2008. The intimate piano songs of his debut album, Learning, gave way to the art pop and experimental rock of records including Too Bright, No Shape and Set My Heart on Fire Immediately. His best-known songs include “Queen” and “Slip Away.” In 2019, Perfume Genius and choreographer Kate Wallich premiered the dance work The Sun Still Burns Here at Seattle’s Moore Theatre, using music that later formed the album Ugly Season. The production subsequently played New York’s Joyce Theater. His album concerts use a live band, and festival appearances have included Primavera Sound in Barcelona and Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago.
