Peter Bernstein Quartet in Dortmund

Peter Bernstein Quartet is an American jazz group led by New York-born guitarist and composer Peter Bernstein, born in 1967. The quartet plays post-bop, standards and Bernstein’s original compositions; key recordings include Signs, Live at Smalls and Signs LIVE!. Peter Bernstein Quartet recorded Live at Smalls at Smalls Jazz Club, documenting the group in the New York club where its leader has performed extensively. The original Signs lineup later reunited for Signs LIVE! at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, featuring pianist Brad Mehldau, bassist Christian McBride and drummer Gregory Hutchinson.

Sullivan Fortner is an American jazz pianist and composer, born in New Orleans in 1986. His albums as a leader include Aria, Moments Preserved and Solo Game. His piano-and-voice partnership with Cécile McLorin Salvant is documented on The Window, which won the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album. From 2010 to 2017, Sullivan Fortner toured as the pianist in Roy Hargrove’s quintet, performing in jazz clubs and at festivals around the world. He later developed a sustained concert partnership with Cécile McLorin Salvant around standards, original songs and improvisation. His performances under his own name include solo-piano recitals and trio concerts, while the voice-and-piano duo remains an established format with Cécile McLorin Salvant.
