Peter Himmelman is an American singer-songwriter and composer, born in Minnesota in 1959, whose music draws on rock and folk songwriting. After leading the Minneapolis band Sussman Lawrence, he established a solo catalog that includes the albums This Father’s Day, Gematria and Skin, as well as songs such as “The Woman with the Strength of 10,000 Men” and “Impermanent Things.” He has also composed music for television, including Judging Amy.

In the early 1980s, Peter Himmelman fronted Sussman Lawrence on the Minneapolis club circuit before concentrating on his solo work. He later performed repeatedly on Late Night with David Letterman, where his songs became part of recurring comic set pieces involving David Letterman.
