Rising Appalachia is an American folk group founded in New Orleans in 2005 by Atlanta-raised sisters Leah Song and Chloe Smith. The group plays Appalachian-rooted folk built around vocal harmonies, banjo, fiddle and percussion. Its best-known recordings include “Medicine” and “Resilient,” as well as the albums Wider Circles and Leylines. Rising Appalachia has performed at California’s Lightning in a Bottle, presenting the sisters’ voices and acoustic instruments as part of a full-band set. The musicians have also traveled to Costa Rica to play Envision Festival.
