About Robert Randolph & The Family Band
Robert Randolph & The Family Band is an American funk, rock and soul group led by pedal-steel guitarist Robert Randolph. Rooted in the African American sacred-steel gospel tradition, the band became known through the concert album Live at the Wetlands, the studio album Unclassified and songs including “Going in the Right Direction” and “Ain’t Nothing Wrong with That.”
Live at the Wetlands documented an early performance at New York’s Wetlands Preserve and established the concert setting as a central part of the band’s recorded work. Robert Randolph & The Family Band later toured with Eric Clapton and Dave Matthews Band, then brought Randolph’s pedal steel and a full rhythm section to festivals including Bonnaroo and Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival.
