About Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra
The Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra is a Dutch symphony orchestra founded in 1918. Its work encompasses the central orchestral repertoire, and its international profile was built through concerts and recordings under conductors including Eduard Flipse, Edo de Waart, Valery Gergiev and Yannick Nézet-Séguin.
The orchestra has performed at De Doelen since the concert hall opened in 1966. In 1996 it established the Rotterdam Philharmonic Gergiev Festival, which became a major part of its concert calendar for many seasons. The orchestra also took its repertoire abroad, performing at Carnegie Hall in New York and appearing at the BBC Proms in the Royal Albert Hall.
