Ryoji Ikeda in Hamburg

Ryoji Ikeda is a Japanese electronic composer and audiovisual artist, born in Gifu in 1966. His work uses sine waves, digital noise and data at the limits of human perception; key releases include the albums +/− and dataplex, while datamatics and test pattern are among his best-known audiovisual projects. The datamatics project has been presented as a series of synchronized audiovisual concerts in which mathematical data determine both sound and projected image. He followed it with superposition, premiered at Centre Pompidou in Paris in 2012 and subsequently staged at the Barbican in London.
