Sarathy Korwar in Istanbul

Sarathy Korwar is an Indian percussionist and composer who was born in the United States, grew up in Ahmedabad and Chennai, and settled in London. His music draws on jazz, Indian rhythmic traditions, hip-hop and spoken word. He is known for the albums Day to Day, More Arriving and KALAK. Sarathy Korwar recorded My East Is Your West live at Church of Sound in London. The ensemble concert revisited music associated with Alice Coltrane, Pharoah Sanders and other spiritual-jazz composers through arrangements shaped by Indian instrumentation and percussion. The resulting double album documents that performance by Sarathy Korwar and the UPAJ Collective.
