Satyricon in Athens

Satyricon is a Norwegian black-metal band formed in 1991, centred on vocalist and guitarist Satyr and drummer Frost. Early albums such as Dark Medieval Times and Nemesis Divina established their raw, atmospheric sound, while “Mother North” became a signature song. Later records including Volcano and Now, Diabolical brought a heavier black ’n’ roll approach. The documentary Roadkill Extravaganza captured Satyricon’s 2000 European tour with Pantera. In 2013, the band performed with the Norwegian National Opera Chorus at the Norwegian National Opera; the concert was later released as Live at the Opera. Satyricon has also performed at Germany’s Wacken Open Air and France’s Hellfest, far from its Oslo base.
