Scritti Politti are a British band formed in Leeds in 1977 and led by Welsh singer and songwriter Green Gartside. Their early records emerged from post-punk, while the album Cupid & Psyche 85 established their polished synth-pop and soul sound through songs including “Wood Beez (Pray Like Aretha Franklin),” “Absolute,” “The Word Girl” and “Perfect Way.”

In 2006, Scritti Politti returned to live performance after an absence of more than two decades, beginning with a low-key concert at the Windmill in Brixton. Later that year, the band toured the UK and performed at Bestival.
