Artist
Shake Stew is an Austrian jazz septet formed in 2016 by bassist and composer Lukas Kranzelbinder. The group plays rhythm-heavy experimental jazz informed by spiritual jazz and Afrobeat, and is known for albums including The Golden Fang, Rise and Rise Again, Gris Gris and Heat. The group gave its first concert at Jazzfestival Saalfelden in 2016, where the performance was recorded for its debut album, The Golden Fang. Subsequent touring brought the septet to European clubs and festivals including Jazzfest Berlin. The live lineup is built around two bassists, two drummers and three horn players, giving Lukas Kranzelbinder’s compositions two rhythm sections and a three-part brass and reed front line. Beyond Austria, Shake Stew has performed at North Sea Jazz in Rotterdam and the Montreal International Jazz Festival.
