Shaun Ryder in Whitley Bay

Shaun Ryder is an English singer and lyricist, born in Salford in 1962, best known as the frontman of Happy Mondays and Black Grape. His music draws on alternative rock, psychedelia and club rhythms; “Step On” and “Kinky Afro,” the album Pills ’n’ Thrills and Bellyaches, and Black Grape’s It’s Great When You’re Straight...Yeah are central works in his catalogue. Happy Mondays performed at the Madchester Rave On concert at Manchester’s G-Mex in 1989 and appeared at Glastonbury Festival the following year. Ryder later returned to the road when the original lineup reunited in 2012, while Black Grape have also toured following their own reunions. The An Evening with Shaun Ryder dates use a spoken-word theatre format built around career stories, an interview and audience questions. At band concerts, he performs as lead vocalist with Happy Mondays or Black Grape. He performs most often in the United Kingdom, including solo theatre dates in London and band concerts in Glasgow.
