Sister Nancy is a Jamaican dancehall deejay and singer, born Ophlin Russell in Kingston in 1962. The younger sister of deejay Brigadier Jerry, she became the first woman widely recognized in Jamaica’s dancehall deejay tradition. Her 1982 debut album One, Two includes “Bam Bam,” her signature recording, later sampled by artists including Kanye West and Jay-Z. In 2023, Sister Nancy performed at Coachella in California. The following year she appeared at Glastonbury Festival in England.
