Slade in Newcastle upon Tyne

Slade are a British rock band formed in Wolverhampton in 1966, best known for the glam-rock singles “Cum On Feel the Noize,” “Mama Weer All Crazee Now” and “Merry Xmas Everybody.” The classic lineup featured Noddy Holder, Dave Hill, Jim Lea and Don Powell, while albums including Slayed? and Old New Borrowed and Blue established their mix of hard rock, stomping rhythms and chant-ready choruses. Slade Alive!, released in 1972, documented the band’s early stage repertoire, including “Get Down and Get with It” and Steppenwolf’s “Born to Be Wild.” Slade replaced Ozzy Osbourne at short notice at Reading Festival in 1980, then performed at Monsters of Rock at Castle Donington the following year.
