Slick Rick in Greensboro

Slick Rick is a British-American rapper, born in London in 1965 and raised in the Bronx. First heard with Doug E. Fresh and the Get Fresh Crew on “The Show” and “La Di Da Di,” he became known for character-driven storytelling, precise phrasing and songs including “Children’s Story,” “Mona Lisa” and “Hey Young World.” His debut album, The Great Adventures of Slick Rick, established the style that runs through his later records. During the mid-1980s, Slick Rick toured with Doug E. Fresh and the Get Fresh Crew on Fresh Fest, performing material that helped introduce him to arena audiences. Decades later, he appeared at the 2018 Yo! MTV Raps: 30th Anniversary Experience at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
