About Steve Smith & Vital Information
Steve Smith & Vital Information is an American jazz-fusion group formed by drummer Steve Smith in 1983. Smith, also known for his work with Journey, built the group’s instrumental repertoire around jazz-rock, funk and Afro-Cuban rhythms. Its key recordings include Vital Information, Global Beat, Where We Come From and Come On In.
Vitalive! documented the band onstage early in its recording history. Performances during 1998 and 1999 were collected on Live Around the World: Where We Come From Tour 1998-1999, and a later lineup returned to the live-album format for Live! One Great Night.
