Artists
Sting is an English singer, songwriter and bassist, born in Wallsend in 1951. He was the lead singer, bassist and principal songwriter of the Police before establishing a solo career spanning rock, pop and jazz. His best-known songs include “Roxanne,” “Every Breath You Take,” “Englishman in New York,” “Fields of Gold” and “Desert Rose.” In 1988, Sting performed on Amnesty International’s Human Rights Now! tour with Bruce Springsteen, Peter Gabriel, Tracy Chapman and Youssou N’Dour. The 2010 Symphonicity Tour presented his catalogue with symphony orchestras, after which he toured with a compact rock band on the Back to Bass Tour. His My Songs programme later became a residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, opening in 2021. Sting sings and switches between bass and guitar during his concerts, supported by a touring band. Guitarist Dominic Miller, who played on Ten Summoner’s Tales and co-wrote “Shape of My Heart,” has toured with him for decades. Sting has played rock-band concerts at Royal Albert Hall in London and presented orchestral repertoire there. He has also brought his touring band to the open-air Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
Fiction Plane are a mostly British alternative pop-rock band formed in London in 1999. Originally called Santa’s Boyfriend, the group was founded by singer, bassist and songwriter Joe Sumner with Dan Brown; guitarist Seton Daunt joined later. Their albums include Everything Will Never Be OK, Left Side of the Brain, Sparks and Mondo Lumina. Fiction Plane appeared at Glastonbury Festival in 2002, 2004 and 2010. During 2007, between the second and third of those appearances, the band opened for the Police across North America, the UK and Europe and performed at Virgin Festival in Baltimore.
