Surprise Chef in San Francisco

Surprise Chef are an Australian instrumental funk and soul-jazz group formed in Melbourne in 2017. They are known for tightly arranged, cinematic grooves heard across the albums All News Is Good News, Daylight Savings and Education & Recreation, the latter released by Big Crown Records. The touring cycle for Education & Recreation took Surprise Chef outside Australia for full-band performances in clubs and at festivals. It included a filmed session for KEXP in Seattle and a 2023 performance at Glastonbury Festival.

Tommy Guerrero is an American musician and former professional skateboarder, born in San Francisco in 1966. A member of the Bones Brigade skate team, he later established a solo catalog of instrumental downtempo, funk, soul and jazz built around guitar and bass. His best-known albums include Loose Grooves & Bastard Blues, A Little Bit of Somethin' and Soul Food Taqueria. A filmed KEXP session documented the compact live-band format he has used while touring internationally, placing his guitar over bass, drums and percussion. He later presented the same ensemble-focused format at a Tiny Desk Concert for NPR Music.
