About Television
Television are an American rock band formed in New York City in 1973 by Tom Verlaine and Richard Hell. Their precise, interlocking guitar work helped shape the city’s art-punk and post-punk sound. The album Marquee Moon, released in 1977, remains their best-known recording, led by its extended title track and “See No Evil.”
Television began playing CBGB in 1974 and became closely associated with the club’s emerging punk scene; early concerts there included appearances with the Patti Smith Group. After separating in 1978, the band reunited for a self-titled album and concerts in 1992. Another reunion followed in 2001, when Television returned to the stage at All Tomorrow’s Parties.
