The Cinematic Orchestra in Düsseldorf

The Cinematic Orchestra are a British electronic-jazz ensemble formed in London in 1999 by composer and producer Jason Swinscoe. Signed to Ninja Tune, the group are known for the albums Motion, Every Day and Ma Fleur, as well as “To Build a Home,” recorded with singer Patrick Watson, and “All That You Give,” featuring Fontella Bass. For Porto’s year as European Capital of Culture in 2001, the ensemble performed Swinscoe’s new score for Dziga Vertov’s silent film Man with a Movie Camera; the music was later issued as an album. The concert recording Live at the Royal Albert Hall subsequently documented the group performing Ma Fleur material with an expanded ensemble.
