About The Durutti Column
The Durutti Column is a British music project formed in Manchester in 1978 and centred on guitarist and composer Vini Reilly. Its atmospheric, often instrumental post-punk is shaped by Reilly’s intricate electric guitar, heard on albums including The Return of the Durutti Column and LC, and on pieces such as “Sketch for Summer” and “Otis.”
In 1978, The Durutti Column played the opening Factory night at the Russell Club, on a programme that also included Joy Division and Cabaret Voltaire. Reilly later performed with changing line-ups, including drummer Bruce Mitchell, and the live album Domo Arigato documents a 1985 performance in Tokyo.
