About The Messthetics
The Messthetics are an American instrumental trio formed in Washington, D.C., by guitarist Anthony Pirog and former Fugazi rhythm section Brendan Canty and Joe Lally. Their music draws on jazz improvisation, post-hardcore and funk; the albums The Messthetics and Anthropocosmic Nest established the group’s guitar-led sound, while The Messthetics and James Brandon Lewis added Lewis’s tenor saxophone to the lineup.
The trio toured North American and European clubs after its 2018 debut and later performed at Big Ears in Knoxville. The collaboration with Lewis also became a concert quartet, and that lineup presented material from their joint album at NPR’s Tiny Desk.
