The Pharcyde & Slum Village in New York

The Pharcyde is an American hip-hop group formed in South Central Los Angeles in 1989. Their playful, jazz-rooted alternative rap found its clearest expression on the albums Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde and Labcabincalifornia, which produced enduring tracks including “Passin’ Me By,” “Runnin’” and “Drop.” The Pharcyde performed on the Lollapalooza tour in 1994 and appeared at Coachella in 2004. In 2008, Imani, Bootie Brown, Fatlip and Slimkid3 reunited for the Rock the Bells festival series.

Slum Village is an American hip-hop group formed in Detroit in 1996 by T3, Baatin and producer-rapper J Dilla. The group became known for soulful, jazz-rooted production and records including Fantastic, Vol. 2, Trinity (Past, Present and Future) and Detroit Deli (A Taste of Detroit). Its best-known tracks include “Fall in Love,” “Tainted” and the Kanye West-produced “Selfish,” featuring West and John Legend. In 1998, Slum Village opened for A Tribe Called Quest on the group’s farewell tour, presenting material from the Fantastic sessions. The touring lineup changed over the following years as Elzhi joined and J Dilla left the group; later performances centered on T3 and Young RJ.
