Slum Village & Pete Rock in Philadelphia

Slum Village is an American hip-hop group formed in Detroit in 1996 by T3, Baatin and producer-rapper J Dilla. The group became known for soulful, jazz-rooted production and records including Fantastic, Vol. 2, Trinity (Past, Present and Future) and Detroit Deli (A Taste of Detroit). Its best-known tracks include “Fall in Love,” “Tainted” and the Kanye West-produced “Selfish,” featuring West and John Legend. In 1998, Slum Village opened for A Tribe Called Quest on the group’s farewell tour, presenting material from the Fantastic sessions. The touring lineup changed over the following years as Elzhi joined and J Dilla left the group; later performances centered on T3 and Young RJ.

Pete Rock is an American hip-hop producer, DJ and rapper, born in 1970 and raised in Mount Vernon, New York. With CL Smooth, he recorded the 1992 album Mecca and the Soul Brother and its signature track “They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.).” His catalog also includes the solo album Soul Survivor and his production for Nas’s “The World Is Yours.” In 2012, Pete Rock and CL Smooth toured together to mark the twentieth anniversary of Mecca and the Soul Brother. Pete Rock handled the decks while CL Smooth rapped, and the concerts returned the album’s songs to a shared set by Pete Rock and CL Smooth.
