The Samples & Freddy Jones Band in Orinda

The Samples are an American rock band formed in Boulder, Colorado, in 1987. Led by singer and songwriter Sean Kelly, they play melodic alternative rock shaped by reggae rhythms and open-ended improvisation. Their best-known recordings include “Feel Us Shaking,” “Did You Ever Look So Nice” and the albums No Room and The Last Drag. The Samples joined the inaugural H.O.R.D.E. festival tour in 1992 and spent much of that decade performing in clubs and college venues across the United States. Their Colorado concert history also includes repeated appearances at Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

Freddy Jones Band is an American roots-rock group formed in Chicago in 1990. Its music draws on blues rock, Southern rock and extended instrumental playing, and the band is best known for “In a Daydream.” Its early catalog includes the albums Waiting for the Night, North Avenue Wake-Up Call and Lucid. Freddy Jones Band played Woodstock ’94 during a decade of extensive club, theater and festival touring. The concert album A Mile High Live later documented the group’s guitar-led stage repertoire, centered on the playing and vocals of Wayne Healy and Marty Lloyd.
