The Silencers in Glasgow

The Silencers are a Scottish rock band formed in London in 1986 by singer-songwriter Jimme O’Neill and guitarist Cha Burns, both formerly of Fingerprintz. Their pop rock carries elements of new wave and Celtic folk, heard on the debut album A Letter from St. Paul and songs including “Painted Moon,” “I See Red” and “Scottish Rain.” The band supported The Pretenders on a European tour and then joined U2 for dates on The Joshua Tree Tour. In 1988 they performed at the Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute at Wembley Stadium, and they later toured in support of Simple Minds during Street Fighting Years.
