The Tallest Man on Earth is the stage name of Swedish folk singer-songwriter Kristian Matsson, who was born in 1983 and grew up in Dalarna. His early albums Shallow Grave and The Wild Hunt established his spare, guitar-led sound, while “The Gardener,” “King of Spain” and “Love Is All” became signature songs. In 2008, The Tallest Man on Earth opened for Bon Iver during a tour of the United States. He later carried his solo voice-and-acoustic-guitar format into headline tours, while concerts around Dark Bird Is Home in 2015 also featured a full band. He performed at Newport Folk Festival that year.
Gwenifer Raymond is a Welsh guitarist and composer from Cardiff who writes instrumental folk music for acoustic guitar and banjo. Her intricate fingerstyle playing draws on the American primitive guitar tradition associated with John Fahey and Robbie Basho; her principal albums include You Never Were Much of a Dancer and Strange Lights Over Garth Mountain. Gwenifer Raymond performs these compositions solo, moving between guitar and banjo. Her concert history includes appearances at Green Man Festival in Wales and Le Guess Who? in Utrecht, while her US festival work has included Knoxville’s Big Ears Festival.
