The Wooten Brothers in Boston

The Wooten Brothers are an American funk and R&B family group formed by Regi, Roy, Rudy, Joseph and Victor Wooten. They recorded for Arista Records as The Wootens in the 1980s. Victor and Roy later became founding members of Béla Fleck and the Flecktones, while Joseph joined the Steve Miller Band. The brothers began performing professionally as children and later opened concerts for Curtis Mayfield and War. They subsequently brought the family group together for recurring full-band performances at 3rd & Lindsley in Nashville.

Victor Wooten is an American bassist, composer and educator, born in 1964 and known for jazz-funk, fusion and bluegrass-rooted instrumental music. He is a founding member of Béla Fleck and the Flecktones, and his solo catalog includes A Show of Hands and What Did He Say?. His playing is closely associated with double-thumb technique, tapping and bass harmonics. Victor Wooten began touring with Béla Fleck and the Flecktones after the group formed in 1988, and their concert recordings include Live Art and Live at the Quick. In the 1990s, he performed and recorded with Steve Bailey as the two-bass project Bass Extremes. He later joined Stanley Clarke and Marcus Miller in SMV, which toured behind Thunder in 2008.
