Tigran Hamasyan in Buenos Aires

Tigran Hamasyan is an Armenian pianist and composer, born in Gyumri in 1987. He plays modern jazz shaped by Armenian folk melodies, irregular meters and the weight of progressive rock; albums including A Fable, Mockroot and The Call Within are central to his recorded work. In 2003, he won the piano competition at the Montreux Jazz Festival, an early milestone in his performance history. He later presented his music in solo piano recitals and amplified trio concerts, including appearances at Jazz in Marciac and the North Sea Jazz Festival.
