Artist
TISM are an Australian alternative rock band formed in Melbourne in 1982, their initials standing for This Is Serious Mum. Their satirical songs pair rock and electronic rhythms with lyrics about popular culture, sport and suburban life. The album Machiavelli and the Four Seasons produced “Greg! The Stop Sign!!” and “(He’ll Never Be An) Ol’ Man River,” while “Whatareya?” and “Everyone Else Has Had More Sex Than Me” became further signature tracks. TISM played the travelling Big Day Out during the 1990s before beginning a long hiatus after Earthcore in 2004. They returned to the stage at Good Things Festival in 2022, then mounted the Death To Art tour in 2024. Their concerts are full-band performances built around masks, coordinated costumes and choreographed routines. The performers keep their identities concealed and use stage names including Humphrey B. Flaubert and Ron Hitler-Barassi.
