About William Basinski
William Basinski is an American experimental composer and sound artist, born in Houston in 1958. He works with ambient music, drones and tape loops, and is best known for the four-volume work The Disintegration Loops, created as old tape loops audibly decayed during transfer to a digital format. His catalogue also includes Watermusic, Melancholia and Cascade.
In 2012, William Basinski presented The Disintegration Loops with the Wordless Music Orchestra in the Temple of Dendur at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. Maxim Moston prepared the orchestral arrangements, and Ryan McAdams conducted the ensemble.
