Wolna Grupa Bukowina is a Polish sung-poetry and acoustic folk group formed in Busko-Zdrój in 1970 by songwriter Wojciech Belon. Its repertoire sets poetic, landscape-rich lyrics to guitar-led arrangements; its best-known songs include “Bukowina,” “Majster Bieda,” “Nuta z Ponidzia” and “Pieśń łagodnych.” In 1971 the group appeared at the Ogólnopolska Giełda Piosenki Turystycznej in Szklarska Poręba, an early landmark in its long association with Poland’s student and tourist-song circuit. After Belon’s death in 1985, the ensemble paused its activity and returned to performing in 1992, carrying his songs into theatres, cultural centres and festival concerts. The group has returned to the student-song festivals Bazuna and Yapa.
