About Atlanta Symphony Orchestra
Atlanta Symphony Orchestra is an American ensemble founded in 1945 and based in Atlanta. It performs symphonic and choral classical music and is especially known for recordings made under music director Robert Shaw, including Berlioz’s Requiem and Britten’s War Requiem with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus.
Atlanta Symphony Hall has served as the orchestra’s principal home since 1968. The ensemble made its Carnegie Hall debut in 1971 under Robert Shaw and undertook its first European tour in 1988.
