Blue Man Group is an American theatrical and musical company created in New York in 1987 by Chris Wink, Matt Goldman and Phil Stanton. Its silent, blue-painted characters combine experimental rock, electronic music, percussion, comedy and visual theatre. The stage concept is its best-known work, while the albums Audio and The Complex brought its custom-built instruments into a studio setting.

In 1991, Blue Man Group opened a production at the Astor Place Theatre that became a long-running part of the company’s live history. The Complex Rock Tour took a concert-focused version of the act on the road in 2003, and How to Be a Megastar Tour 2.0 later carried that format into arenas.

A Blue Man Group performance centers on three non-speaking Blue Men, supported by live musicians. Percussion pieces use conventional drums and proprietary instruments such as the Drumbone, while paint, physical comedy and audience participation provide the theatrical structure.

The company mounted long resident productions at Universal Orlando Resort and Chicago’s Briar Street Theatre. A German production also ran for years at Berlin’s Stage BLUEMAX Theater.
