About Chico Buarque
Chico Buarque is a Brazilian singer-songwriter, composer and writer, born in 1944 and closely associated with samba and música popular brasileira. He first became widely known through “A Banda”; his catalogue also includes “Construção,” “Apesar de Você” and “Cálice,” written with Gilberto Gil.
At the 1966 Festival da Música Popular Brasileira, he performed “A Banda,” which shared first prize. In 1972, he and Caetano Veloso recorded the concert album Caetano e Chico Juntos e ao Vivo at Teatro Castro Alves in Salvador. He returned to an extensive theatre tour in 2017 with Caravanas.
He played most of his later concerts in Brazil, including runs in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. In 2022 and 2023, he brought Que Tal um Samba? to Portugal and performed in Lisbon.
