Dave Dobbyn is a New Zealand rock and pop singer-songwriter, born in Auckland in 1957. He first became known through Th’ Dudes and DD Smash before establishing a solo career. His signature songs include “Be Mine Tonight,” “Outlook for Thursday,” “Slice of Heaven,” “Loyal” and “Welcome Home.”

In 1984, DD Smash played the free Thank God It’s Over concert at Aotea Square, a performance remembered for the riot that followed; Dave Dobbyn was charged with inciting the disturbance and later acquitted. In 2000 he toured with Tim Finn and Bic Runga, documented on the live album Together in Concert. The Slice of Heaven: 40 Years of Hits tour later presented four decades of his songs in a full-band retrospective.
