About De-Phazz
De-Phazz is a German downtempo and nu-jazz project formed in Heidelberg by producer Pit Baumgartner in 1997. Its music draws on electronic production, jazz, soul and lounge, often featuring vocalists Pat Appleton and Karl Frierson. Albums including Detunized Gravity, Godsdog and Death by Chocolate established its sample-rich, rhythm-led sound.
The concert film Live at Villa Belvedere documented the project as a stage ensemble built around Baumgartner’s arrangements, singers and instrumental players. Later, the De Capo program recast material from the catalogue for concerts with Stüba Philharmonie.
