About Death Cult
Death Cult was a British post-punk band formed in 1983 by singer Ian Astbury and guitarist Billy Duffy after the end of Southern Death Cult and Theatre of Hate. The group was the immediate precursor to The Cult and is known for the Death Cult EP, the single “Gods Zoo” and songs including “Brothers Grimm” and “Ghost Dance.”
The band made its live debut in Oslo in 1983, then toured Britain and continental Europe before adopting the name The Cult the following year. Astbury and Duffy returned to this repertoire for the Death Cult 8323 tour in 2023, performing material by Southern Death Cult, Death Cult and early The Cult at venues including the Roundhouse in London.
