About DJ Premier
DJ Premier is an American hip-hop producer and turntablist, born Christopher Martin in Houston in 1966 and best known as one half of Gang Starr with rapper Guru. His sample-based beats and precise scratching shaped Gang Starr albums including Daily Operation and Moment of Truth, while his production credits include Nas’s “N.Y. State of Mind,” The Notorious B.I.G.’s “Unbelievable” and Jay-Z’s “D’Evils.”
In 2015, DJ Premier toured North America with Royce da 5'9" as PRhyme following the duo’s debut album. In 2017, he performed selections from his production catalogue on turntables alongside the live band The Badder for NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert.
