Artist
Eliza Carthy is an English folk singer, fiddler and songwriter, born in Scarborough in 1975. The daughter of folk musicians Martin Carthy and Norma Waterson, she became known through her interpretations of traditional songs and albums including Red Rice, Anglicana and Dreams of Breathing Underwater; Red Rice received a Mercury Prize nomination. Waterson:Carthy, formed in 1994 by Eliza Carthy, Martin Carthy, Norma Waterson and Saul Rose, toured as a family quartet centred on traditional English material. She later performed with The Imagined Village, then assembled the 12-piece Wayward Band in 2013 for a tour marking 21 years as a professional musician. The Wayward Band subsequently performed at Glastonbury Festival and Cambridge Folk Festival. Her concert work is centred on the United Kingdom, while tours have also taken her English folk repertoire to the United States.
