About Filarmonica Della Scala
Filarmonica Della Scala is an Italian symphony orchestra founded by Claudio Abbado in 1982 and formed by musicians from the orchestra of Teatro alla Scala. It was established to develop the musicians’ symphonic repertoire beyond opera and has performed and recorded under conductors including Abbado, Riccardo Muti and Riccardo Chailly.
Claudio Abbado conducted its first concert at Teatro alla Scala in 1982. The orchestra later toured internationally under Riccardo Muti and performed at concert halls including the Musikverein in Vienna and Carnegie Hall in New York. In 2013 it launched the open-air Concerto per Milano at Piazza del Duomo.
